Mia HoddellAbout the Author
Mia Hoddell lives in the UK with her family and two cats. She spends most of her time writing or reading and her preferred genre is Young Adult, Paranormal Romance. Before 2009, Mia wouldn't even pick up a book and was more interested in sports. However she finally found some novels that captured her interest and developed a love of both reading and writing. Mia began with poems and after getting two published in separate anthologies she moved onto short stories. Although she enjoyed this, Mia found she had too much to tell with too little space, so later on she created her first series The Wanderer Trilogy and from there other ideas have emerged which she hopes to turn into novels as well. Elemental Killers is her second series and book two will be out soon.

ARC Review: How To Lead a Life of Crime by Kirsten Miller

How to Lead a Life of CrimeHow To Lead a Life of Crime by Kirsten Miller
Release Date: February 26 2013
Publisher: Razorbill
Format: ARC Paperback
Pages:358
Genre:YA/Fiction
Source: Publisher

Goodreads Synopsis:
A meth dealer. A prostitute. A serial killer.

Anywhere else, they’d be vermin. At the Mandel Academy, they’re called prodigies. The most exclusive school in New York City has been training young criminals for over a century. Only the most ruthless students are allowed to graduate. The rest disappear.

Flick, a teenage pickpocket, has risen to the top of his class. But then Mandel recruits a fierce new competitor who also happens to be Flick’s old flame. They’ve been told only one of them will make it out of the Mandel Academy. Will they find a way to save each other—or will the school destroy them both?

My Thoughts:
I really liked this one! It is such a different and unique story. I love Kirsten Miller and this book is so different from anything else I have read by her. Its edgy and action packed. The characters are intriguing and the plot is ever changing.

Just when you think you know what is going to happen, Kirsten throws you for a loop. Flick is a great character. There are so many different layers to him.  You think you have him all figured out but he is constantly evolving as the story goes on. He was not expecting Joi to show up to this unbelievable environment. She has been the only constant in his life. The light at the end of the tunnel. But what Flick doesn't realize is that Joi has a dark past of her own and she isn't as innocent as he has made her out to be. But Joi and Flick must work together to burn The Mandel Academy to the ground.

The Mandel Academy is nothing like what you would expect from High School. The Mandel Academy is breeding the next generation of crooks. But these aren't normal crooks. These are high ranking goverment officals, CEO's of major corporations and movie stars.  But breeding crooks isn't the only thing going on behind the doors of The Mandel Academy. Something much more dark and sinister is behind those doors.

These kids are ruthless. They will do anything they have to to succeed and be placed in the top 12. Otherwise if they don't, things end badly for them.

Really really enjoyed this one. It was so different from anything that I usually read and it was a nice change of pace. If you are looking for an action-packed, edgy read that will keep you on the seat of your pants just waiting to see what happens then How To Lead A Life of Crime is for you.

Leah Clifford currently lives in Ohio, but frequently dreams of finding an abandoned mansion in the south that she can restore. In her spare time she loves to travel and has been known to drive over two hours to get kickass quesadillas. So far for jobs she's sold corn at a roadside stand, been a pizza delivery girl, a camp counselor, an extreme cave tour guide, a flight attendant, a waitress (x3), a grocery store clerk and a writer. Out of all of them, writing has been the most fun. She's pretty sure she's gonna stick with it.

Please Welcome Becca to My Bookish Fairy Tale

Happy Monday Bookies! Oh don't groan it comes by every week.
So as 2013 is the year for change and organization and community involvment here on My Bookish Fairy TaleI have been trying to think up ways to make this more fun and interactive as you all may or may not know.

So I have put a lot of thought into bringing someone else on board. For all of you who run a Blog by yourself or have recently transitioned into adding a co-author you know how big a decision that this is. I love my baby and have worked my ass off to get this blog to where it is today. But I couldnt be happier in this. A very good friend of mine has recently decided that she wants to review the books she reads as well and this is a great platform for her to do that. Becca is amazing and I hope you all welcome her with open arms!

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
What are your favorite genre's to read?
Favorite genre would definitely be paranormal, so like werewolves, ghost, magick, followed closely by post apocalyptic, so fantasy and make believe, and possible reality lol
Who are your favorite authors?
Favorite authors would be Kelley Armstrong and Laurell K. Hamilton

What is a day in the life of Becca like?
I work nights, so usually when I am awake, everyone else is asleep. Gives lots of time for reading. And when I get home from work, my four awesome kids and my charming husband all greet me at the door. 6-8 hours of sleep and then it's family time!! Homework and games, housecleaning and laundry, we do it all together. I am one lucky mom!

Favorite childhood book?
Sleeping beauty. I have always loved that fairy tale, even now.

Coffee or Tea?
Definitely, tea....nothing like a good book and a cup of chia tea to pass a cold winter night

Favorite Place to read?
And favourite place to read? A blanket laid out in a field on a warm sunny day. Nature and a good story, what a great combination

Rant Post When did blogging become so vicious?

Hey guys! I hope everyone is excited for the upcoming weekend. I know that I am for sure. My son had surgery this past Tuesday. Nothing too serious but hey surgery is surgery right. So I have been taking the last couple of days to hang out with my little guy. I was finally able to steal a couple of hours this morning to fiddle around online and read up on some blog posts that I've missed and I keep coming across some pretty negative posts. Whether it has to do with the outrageous Plagarizing that has been going on within the YA blogging community or the Author Bashing a Blogger post that I read earlier this morning (if your not sure what I am talking about you can read all about it here) things seem to be taking a negative turn in our wonderful little community.

Obviously when you become more and more involved in a hobby or anything really, you become personally invested in the lives of others. You meet more people and connect. They become your friends and allies and you feel that when something bad happens to one of your friends that problem inadvertently it becomes your problem as well. I can understand this. Heck if someone was rude or purposely hurtful to someone in my life I would want to defend the hell outta that person. But when do you get involved? What issues become so outrageous that you feel like you need to step up and voice your opinion?
