Bewitching Blog Tours:MM Shelley Guest Post Music Of The Night

Music of the Night
I often times will listen to music while I write. Some nights I will be up writing late into the night and will often times wear earphones so not to disturb my roommate. I found that it can help me set the scene or work through a scene that had been giving me trouble. Talking to other writers I found that I am not alone in this. Many of us listen to music while we write. A friend of mine, who is not a writer, had once asked, “How can I possibly write while listening to music? Doesn’t it bother you?”
I actually find it most helpful.

I find myself listening to a lot of rap, from artist like Nicki Minaj, and Eminem. I’ve also listened to Bruno Mars and Shakira. Sometimes I even listen to my neighbor’s music, but only because they play it full volume and it can’t be helped.

A song that I recommend everyone listen to at least once is, “Over the Rainbow,” by IZ also known as Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, he was a Hawaiian musician who left this world too early. His rendition of that song is very moving.

Sometimes I will also listen to soundtracks to musicals. My favorites are Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera. I recently saw the 25th anniversary production of Les Miserables at the Ahmanson and I have plans to see Phantom of the Opera – Love Never Dies.

While writing my book Mishap & Mayhem, I listened to OneRepublic so much that I could probably recite the music word for word.

I’d love to hear what all of you listen too!

Thanks to Kristen My Bookish Fairy Tale for letting me share with you all today. You can find me over at my blog:MM Shelley and on Twitter
