Goodreads Synopsis:

Chronicling the rise of the Keepers, this is the stunning prequel to Andrea Cremer's internationally bestselling Nightshade trilogy!

Sixteen-year-old Ember Morrow is promised to a group called Conatus after one of their healers saves her mother's life. Once she arrives, Ember finds joy in wielding swords, learning magic, and fighting the encroaching darkness loose in the world. She also finds herself falling in love with her mentor, the dashing, brooding, and powerful Barrow Hess. When the knights realize Eira, one of their leaders, is dabbling in dark magic, Ember and Barrow must choose whether to follow Eira into the nether realm or to pledge their lives to destroying her and her kind.
With action, adventure, magic, and tantalizing sensuality, this book is as fast-paced and breathtaking as the Nightshade novels.

My Thoughts:

I have been putting off reading Rift. I loved the Nightshade series so much that I wasn't sure how Andrea was going to go about her prequel series. Of course, I ended up loving Rift. Andrea weaves such a wonderful and magical world that you can’t help, but get sucked into the pages and want to stay there.
Rift is nothing like I thought it was going to be. Honestly, I guess I didn't know what to expect, but it was amazing. Andrea takes us back to the very beginning; to when it all started. I loved her characters and I am pretty sure I want my own Barrow.

Rift is a subtle lead up and Bosque Mar is there stirring up all kinds of trouble. Rift was a great way to start the new series and I am really, really excited to read Rise!

  1. I haven't read any of the Nightshade series but just finished Captive - the adult spinoff and enjoyed it. Bosque Mar is in it and quite creepy but I don't know much more about him.
