The Body Finder By Kimberley Derting

The Body Finder (The Body Finder, #1)

Goodreads Blurb:

Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her "power" to sense dead bodies—or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes the dead leave behind in the world . . . and the imprints that attach to their killers.
Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find dead birds her cat left for her. But now that a serial killer is terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he's claimed haunt her daily, Violet realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.
Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet find the murderer—and Violet is unnerved by her hope that Jay's intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she's falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer . . . and becoming his prey herself.

My Thoughts:

Talk about having an extraordinary ability. But Violet Ambrose has a talent unlike anything anyone ever would have expected. Violet can sense the dead. Specifically those who have been murdered. Ever since she can remember Violet had the uncanny ability to find dead animals. But when she was eight years old, Violet found the body of a young girl who was buried in the woods. She doesn't understand why she is pulled towards these restless souls. Whether it be a sound,, sight, taste or smell each body has a  certain echo that draws Violet in. The only people who know about her ability are her parents, her uncle and her best friend Jay.

No one knows exactly why but it turns out that the ability Violet has struggled with for her entire life finally has some use. While at a beach party with her friends Violet is drawn in by an echo in the water. She finds the body of a young girl. But it doesn't stop there. As young girls start to go missing in her town, Violet's uncle asks for her help in locating a body.

This leads Violet on a whirlwind journey to bring peace to the families of these missing girls and to stop the killer before he kills again.

Jay has been Violets best friend for forever but something changed over the summer and Violet finds herself looking at Jay in a whole new light. Violet isn't the only one who takes notice of Jay. Just about every other girl in school as well. Jay has known about Violet's abilities since they were kids. He has always been her friend and protector. But as Violets life becomes targeted, Jay's role as protector takes on a whole new meaning.

I absolutely loved The Body Finder. I have not read a book like this in a while and it was a refreshing change. A dark and edgy novel that keeps you on your toes and has you guessing the whole way through. Kimberley did a great job of brining mystery, danger and romance into one amazing novel.

I Give this 4/5 Hearts!
