Author Interview: Marissa Meyer

Marissa Meyer
Marissa Meyer is the New York Times Bestselling author of the Lunar Chronicles series. Cinder (#1) and Scarlet (#2)
Thank you Marissa for taking the time to answer some questions for us.

Since Scarlet is due to release next month which book did you have more fun writing?

This is tough, because there are parts of both books that were a lot of fun to write, and other parts that were a struggle. But in general I'd say I had more fun with SCARLET, because it has more characters in it (Scarlet, Wolf, and Captain Thorne, in addition to Cinder, Kai, and the rest), and I really love seeing them all play off each other in entertaining ways. Plus, because there are two dueling plots throughout most of the book, when I got stuck on one, I could just switch to the other!

So far there are 4 books in the series. How many books do you plan on writing for the lunar chorincles series?
The series will end after four books, but I've also written a couple short prequel stories (titled "Glitches" and "The Queen's Army") that are available for e-reader downloads, and I would love to write more. In particular, I have an idea for a prequel novelette surrounding the evil queen that I'd really love to write someday.

Kai or Wolf? Personally Wolf hit all the right places for me :) Yummy
Why thank you! I love ALL my leading men, for very different reasons. As I've just finished writing Book 3, CRESS, I actually think Captain Thorne is my favorite at the moment. He really shines in Book 3. :)

Can you tell us which other fairytales you will be retelling throughout the series?
Book 3: CRESS is inspired by Rapunzel, except my Rapunzel is trapped in a satellite orbiting Earth instead of a tower. Book 4: WINTER is based on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

As of this time are you currently working on anything besides the Lunar Chronicles?
I finished the first draft of a YA fantasy novel during National Novel Writing Month last year and my agent and I are going to be submitting that to my publisher any day now. I'm having a lot of fun with it and can't wait to tell readers what it's about!

What was your last favorite read?
Oh gosh, I read a lot of great books in 2012! My most recent favorite was "The Near Witch" by Victoria Schwab. Haunting, romantic, and suspenseful!

Read the first chapter of SCARLET: Book Two of the Lunar Chronicles.
