Goodreads Synopsis:

A child he's never met. A danger he's never known.

Deep in the humid, rank heart of the Louisiana bayou, a survivalist group has something that belongs to former navy SEAL Ben Slocum: his son.
That he's a father is news Ben Slocum was not expecting. But once the initial shock wears off for the confirmed bachelor, he takes in the rest of what social worker Claire Chastain tells him: that Sam is in the custody of an abusive degenerate, that they've disappeared...and that Ben is now the child's only hope.
As Ben and Claire band together to track the two down, their concern for the boy draws them closer, each fighting feelings there's no time to explore. Because when their search takes them too close to Sam's abductor and his cohorts, the danger hits home-the son he's desperate to save, the woman he's desperate to love... Ben's got one chance to take back what's his, and in one gunshot he could lose it all.Deep in the humid, rank heart of the Louisiana bayou, a survivalist group has something that belongs to former navy SEAL Ben Slocum: his son. That he's a father is news Ben Slocum was not expecting. My Thoughts:

What an amazing story! I was very hesitant because it was a Harlequin book. I am not a regular Harlequin reader. Well, thanks to Kat Martin that fact has changed, at least with her stories. With a good balance between romance and adventure, Against the Edge was definitely worth taking the time to read.

Ben Slocum is your typical Harlequin hero. Macho, sexy, well-built Ben is tough and doesn't need anyone. At least that’s what he thinks. Enter smart and sexy Claire Chastain and, of course, she needs Ben’s help.

Very typical, very predictable, gotta love Harlequin Romance. What I wasn't expecting was the adventure. Ben is a SEAL, so the action was intense and very fast paced. Kat Martin knows how to tell an incredible story that kept me reading. Not to beat a dead horse, but I am not into typical Harlequin romance stories. But I did enjoy watching the love develop between Claire and Ben, both fighting it every step of the way. Kat’s characters are fairly well developed. Little Sam stole my heart right off the bat. Even the supporting characters were well-written with strong personality traits.

I really enjoyed Against the Edge by Kat Martin and will be picking up the other books in the Raines of Wind Canyon series. I would definitely recommend this book not only to readers of romance, but adventure and drama as well.

Have you ready any of Kat Martin’s Raines of Wind Canyon series? If so, any recommendations on which one I should read next?
