Goodreads Synopsis:

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Every summer three families take a trip together—this year it’s to a remote resort in the mountains of upstate New York. Scotty, a teenager who’s just come out, is nervous about how his friends will react to him. A late night visit to an old nearby cemetery seems like a great idea to the bored teens, but the old cemetery holds dark secrets hidden for almost a century—secrets that might have been better left undisturbed.

And what originally seemed like a boring week in the mountains gradually becomes a nightmare of terror for the teens and their families

My Thoughts:

Lake Thirteen was amazing!! I love paranormal stories and Greg Herren did not disappoint.
The plot was amazing, carefully pieced together to keep you involved and guessing, with just the right amounts of twists. Just when you think you have it all figured out, a new piece of the puzzle comes to light. I began reading this book late one evening and, not only did it give me goose bumps, but I was actually jumping at strange noises for a few nights to follow. I love the whole concept of mysteries from the past. It can be tricky to write this kind of mystery and Lake Thirteen proves it can be done.
I loved our main character, Scotty. He seemed very real and believable and you can see some of the fears that a teen would face after telling his friends he was gay. I liked that his friends handled it exactly as I hope that people would, like it was no big deal. Scotty is sweet and endearing, and you just want to hug him and tell him that everything will be ok. Herren’s supporting characters were all very well written; each being engaging and having their own interesting personalities.

Lake Thirteen was a wonderfully spooky book that I liked very much and recommend to readers of paranormal mystery.
