Happy New Year! Personal New Years Resolutions

Ok everyone I just wanted to say Happy New Year and I hope everyone had a great 2010!! This year was great but I am so looking forward to the fresh start of 2011.

My New Years Resolutions for 2011 are:
1 spend more one on one time with my kids. They grow up so fast and I already feel like time is not on my side
2 learn to laugh more. Don't sweat the small stuff that I have no control over.
3 try to keep in touch more with the people that matter the most to me.
4 finish my book. I have had this goal set out for the last couple of months but I am such a procrastinator and I have a tendency to start a project and not finish it. I am determined to finish this I have put too much time and energy into it not to.
5 Smile just smile and enjoy the little things.

I wish everyone the best and I hope that 2011 is a great year for everyone.!!

"Hello, I'm Nina Parker…and I'm an alcoholic."
For Nina, it's not the weighty admission but the first steps toward recovery that prove most difficult. She must face her ex-husband, Hunt, with little hope of making amends, and try to rebuild a relationship with her angry teenage daughter, Meagan. Hardest of all, she is forced to return to Abbey Hills, Missouri, the hometown she abruptly abandoned nearly two decades earlier – and her unexpected arrival in the sleepy Ozark town catches the attention of someone – or something – igniting a two-hundred-fifty-year-old desire that rages like a wildfire.
Unaware of the darkness stalking her, Nina is confronted with a series of events that threaten to unhinge her sobriety. Her daughter wants to spend time with the parents Nina left behind. A terrifying event that has haunted Nina for almost twenty years begins to surface. And an alluring neighbor initiates an unusual friendship with Nina, but is Markus truly a kindred spirit or a man guarding dangerous secrets?
As everything she loves hangs in the balance, will Nina's feeble grasp on her demons be broken, leaving her powerless against the thirst? The battle between redemption and obsession unfold to its startling, unforgettable end

YA Reads:
Mostly Good Girls
The higher you aim, the farther you fall….
It’s Violet’s junior year at the Westfield School. She thought she’d be focusing on getting straight As, editing the lit mag, and figuring out how to talk to boys without choking on her own saliva. Instead, she’s just trying to hold it together in the face of cutthroat academics, her crush’s new girlfriend, and the sense that things are going irreversibly wrong with her best friend, Katie.
When Katie starts making choices that Violet can’t even begin to fathom, Violet has no idea how to set things right between them. Westfield girls are trained for success—but how can Violet keep her junior year from being one huge, epic failure?
Beyond the Threshold of Death
The year is 1795, Old World Ireland. A beautiful young woman named Deirdra O'Dea ails from an unknown illness, her health deteriorating rapidly. Her father, fearing for his daughter's health, unknowingly hires a vampire named Mylana to care for her. Instantly, a freindship blossoms between the two women. Seeing the pain Deirdra is in, Mylana offers her immortality, of which she excepts. Almost two centuries later, Deirdra suddenly finds herself in the middle of an unearthly upheaval. Events waged a millennia before hand have reawakened the furry of an ancient Blood God, whose objectives involve the complete obliteration of the vampire race
The Phantom Diaries (The Phantom Diaries, #1)
What happens to the Phantom after the tragedy at the Paris Opera House is the basis for this fantastic tale of The Phantom Diaries, loosely based on Gaston Leroux's classic, The Phantom of the Opera, but with a new tale and a modern twist. This new series for older teens and young adults is told through the eyes of 18 year-old Annette Binoche, who lands a job at the New York Metropolitan Opera House as a seamstress' assistant only to become the lead singer of the Opera House, with the help of the mysterious, yet highly-seductive Phantom.
Crescendo (Hush, Hush, #2)
Nora Grey's life is still far from perfect. Surviving an attempt on her life wasn't pleasant, but atleast she got a guardian angel out of it: a mysterious, magnetic, gorgeous guardian angel. But, despite his role in her life, Patch has been acting anything but angelic. He's more elusive than ever and even worse, he's started spending time with Nora's arch-enemy, Marcie Millar.

Nora would have hardly noticed Scott Parnell, an old family friend who has moved back to town, if Path hadnt been acting so distant. Even with Scott's totally infuriating attitude Nora finds herself drawn to him - despite her lingering feeling that he's hiding something.

Haunted by images of her murdered father, and questioning whether her nephilim bloodline has anything to do with his death, Nora puts herself increasingly in dangerous situations as she desperatly searches for answers. But maybe some things are better left buried, because the truth could destroy everything - and everyone - she trusts.

Review Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1)
Goodreads Blurb:Flirting with the grave...
Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father--the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.

In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner--are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her new found status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

I Cannot believe that it has taken me this long to read Jeaniene's work. Halfway to the Grave was an amazing read. Outright hilarious and loving and dangerous all rolled into one amazing read. Cat and Bones struck me as a classic love story of two people who love each other but cannot be together. Cat is a kick ass heroine who is a half blood vampire. She has hunted down vampires because of what has happened to her mother. In a million years she never thought she would fall in love with a vampire. Kill them yes, love them hell no. Bones is a sexy, english vampire who meets Cat under different circumstances. Their relationship started out as a professional working relationship as the two had the same common goal. Get rid of the Vampires. But as time went on it turned into something so much more. Cat and Bones are going after a vampire named Hennessey who is kidnapping and selling human girls to the highest bidder. As the two embark on this journey to find and destroy Hennessey things become complicated fast. I literally laughed out loud, cried and felt the characters as if I had known them personally. Halfway to the Grave is an amazing read for anyone who loves Paranormal Romance.
I highly recommend this book!
4/5 hearts~

I want to be a Storyteller.

It popped into my head so fast and furious that I didn’t even know how to react. It just came. And I set in wonder, contemplating what it all meant.

For a long time my single goal was to direct fantasy/adventure movies. The genre pulled at me … it fascinated me. The idea of the hero’s adventure fascinated me. But what I didn’t realize was that my journey of directing fantasy/adventure movies would take me down a journey of words and books through a company I would later name Worlds To Discover.

As the idea settled a lot of things started to happen. Stories that were in my head started to be more present, I started sketching out maps, clothing, homes, plants and anything that would help me develop the story. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I wasn’t just creating a journey … an adventure … but rather, I was creating worlds. I was creating people who were real and alive … if only in my head. I was creating places that had history. Cultures. Friendships. And villains. And if I didn’t know before I knew then that just directing a fantasy/adventure movie would never have been enough. I had to write the adventure as well. It had to be apart of me in a way that just reading the adventure could never be.

But first I had to answer some questions like:

  1. What makes a character memorable?
  2. What makes for a great adventure?
  3. How do images play a part?

Of course there are more questions to be answered but understanding these three questions … for me will give me the foundation of my storytelling.

Labyrinth's Door - No. 1 (Anyia - Dream of a Warrior)

Review Nightshade by Andrea Creamer

Nightshade (Nightshade, #1)
Blurb From Goodreads:
Calla Tor has always known her destiny: After graduating from the Mountain School, she'll be the mate of sexy alpha wolf Ren Laroche and fight with him, side by side, ruling their pack and guarding sacred sites for the Keepers. But when she violates her masters' laws by saving a beautiful human boy out for a hike, Calla begins to question her fate, her existence, and the very essence of the world she has known. By following her heart, she might lose everything— including her own life. Is forbidden love worth the ultimate sacrifice?

My thoughts:

Ok so I have read many reviews about Nightshade and they have all highly appraised Andrea's work, so after reading one amazing review after another I needed to pick up this book to see what all the fuss was about. So after I won this book from a blog giveaway I was ecstatic to say the least. Well it's safe to say that the reviews did not disappoint. Nightshade is beyond an amazing read. Andrea Creamer did an amazing job at capturing our attention and bringing us into her world of the wolves. I could not believe how gripping it was from the first to the last page. I loved Calla. As the Alpha of her pack she holds great responsibility. She is selfless beyond all measures.. well almost. She is destined to be with the Ren the Alpha of the Bane pack. There union has been sanctioned since their births. Calla has come to accept her place in the order of things until an unexpected stranger transfers in. Shay is a mysterious boy who Calla cannot seem to stay away from even though it could cause irrevocable damage to herself and her pack. Calla is a strong main character who was easy to identify with. I had no trouble connecting with her. As the two packs merge and Shay is introduced, things that Calla has been taught her whole life begin to unfurl. Everything is not as she has been made to believe. Her loyalties lie deep even if it means that she has to spend the rest of her life with someone she doesn't truly love.
Andrea has made an exciting world that you cannot help but want to be apart of.
I am highly anticipating Wolfsbane and cannot wait to continue Calla's story.

Review The Darkest Kiss by Gena Showalter

The Darkest Kiss (Lords of the Underworld, #2)
Blurb from Goodreads:She has tempted many men...but never found her equal. Until now.
Though she has lived for centuries, Anya, goddess of anarchy, has never known pleasure. Until Lucien, the incarnation of death--a warrior eternally doomed to take souls to the hereafter. He draws her like no other. And Anya will risk anything to have him.

But when the merciless Lord of the Underworld is ordered by the gods to claim Anya herself, their uncontrollable attraction becomes an anguished pursuit. Now they must defeat the unconquerable forces that control them, before their thirst for one another demands a sacrifice of love beyond imagining...

My Thoughts:
I love Anya and Lucien. Their story is amazing. Anya is this fiery Goddess who has caught the attention of Lucien the leader of the Lords of the Underworld. Lucien has been thinking about Anya since the moment she came into his life. He had not seen her only heard her voice as she set Maddox and Ashlyn free in the first book. He remembers her by her smell. Strawberries. She shows herself to him in this book and Lucien was immediately captivated. The relationship between Anya and Lucien is an amazing one! The push and pull between the two of them is great. Anya can never truly be with a lover and Lucien believes he is undeserving. This unlikely pair go through extreme trials to be together even though the odds are stacked against them.
If anyone loves Gena Showalter I would highly recommend you pick up her Lords of the Underworld series. If you haven't already done so you need to run.. go now. and grab her Lords! They are sexy and yummy and definitely good to have on a cold winter's night!

I give this read

Review Taken By Midnight by Lara Adrian

Taken by Midnight (Midnight Breed, #8)

Goodreads Blurb:

AT THE CROSSROADS OF DEATH AND DESIRE, A WOMAN TASTES A PLEASURE NO MORTAL IS MEANT TO SURVIVE.

In the frozen Alaskan wilderness, former state trooper Jenna Darrow survives an unspeakable breach of body and soul. But with her narrow escape comes an even greater challenge. For strange changes are taking place within her, as she struggles to understand—and control—a new hunger. To do so, she will seek shelter in the Boston compound of the Order, an ancient race of vampire warriors whose very existence is shrouded in mystery. Perhaps the most mysterious of them all is Brock, a brooding, dark-eyed alpha male whose hands hold the power to comfort, heal . . . and arouse.
As she recovers under Brock’s care, Jenna finds herself drawn to the Order’s mission: to stop a ruthless enemy and its army of assassins from subjecting Earth to a reign of terror. Yet in spite of their resolve, a purely physical relationship without strings soon binds Brock and Jenna together with a desire fiercer than life and stronger than death itself—until a secret from Brock’s past and Jenna’s own mortality challenges their forbidden love to the ultimate trial by fire.

My Thoughts:
I loved Brocks story. I love this series in general lol I have not read one bad book yet. Brock's story was heartbreaking. His relationship with Jenna is complicated considering she is not a breedmate the few human woman who can breed with the vampires. She is a human and the best friend of Kade's mate Alex. Brock had met her while helping Kade out on his mission in the last book. Jenna suffered torture from the Ancient and Brock has been appointed her "Guardian" while she is living with the order. Strange things start happening to Jenna and no one can figure out what it is. Brock and Jenna are drawn to eachother even though they know there is no real future in site for them. It doesn't matter how hard they try, they just cannot stay away from each other. As these things keep happening to Jenna its just keeps Brock coming back. He feels that it is his responsibility to keep her safe and it goes far beyond his protector role. I love the relationship between Brock and Jenna. This series just keeps getting better and better.
I know I have said this a thousand times but if you have not picked up this series you need to do so!!

The only issue I have with this book is the cover. Brock is an African American vampire and they put a white guy on the cover. What the hell is that shit?? The story itself is Amazing but the cover art pisses me off. For anyone whose read this do you share the same feeling??

Review of Shades of Midnight by Lara Adrian

Shades of Midnight (Midnight Breed, #7)

Blurb from Goodreads:
In a frozen wilderness steeped in darkness, the lines between good and evil, lover and enemy, are never black or white but drawn in Shades of Midnight.
Something inhuman is stalking the frigid Alaskan wilds, leaving unspeakable carnage in its wake. For bush pilot Alexandra Maguire, the killings stir memories of a horrific event she witnessed as a child and evoke in her the inexplicable sense of otherness she has long felt within herself but never fully understood . . . until a darkly seductive stranger with secrets of his own enters her world.
Sent from Boston on a mission to investigate the savage attacks and stop the slaughter, vampire warrior Kade has his own reasons for returning to the frigid, forbidding place of his birth. Haunted by a secret shame, Kade soon realizes the stunning truth of the threat he faces–a threat that will jeopardize the fragile bond he has formed with the courageous, determined young woman who arouses his deepest passions and most primal hungers. But in bringing Alex into his world of blood and darkness, Kade must confront both his own personal demons and the even greater evil that could destroy all he holds dear.

My Thoughts:
For anyone who has read Lara Adrians a Midnight Breed series knows how great it is. She is an amazing author who has written an incredible series. Shades of Midnight is Kades story. Kade gets sent back to his homeland of Alaska to carry out a mission to the order. He returns home to Alaska to find that a breedmate named Alex has totally sidetracked his mission. He has fallen in love with Alex when that is the last thing that he should have done. I love Kade. You don't really hear all that much about him in the earlier books but when you hear his personal story you become hooked. At least I did. I felt Kade's pain and his triumphs.Kade's personal struggles made my heart melt. Kade's love for Alex is so magical but realistic at the same time. You cannot help but fall in love with Lara's characters. The warriors make huge headway in their fight with the evil Dragos and the Ancient who has been terrorizing the Vampire race. If you have not read Lara's series I highly suggest you go and pick it up. For anyone who loves Vampires and romance this is a great series.
